Shutter

Shutter is a screenshot program that comes with tools for editing images.

You can take a screenshot of a specific area, window, your whole screen, or even of a website - apply different effects to it, draw on it to highlight points, and then upload to an image hosting site, all within one window.

Shutter's in the Linux Mint Software Manager so it's not hard to find:-

Version and link to the website.

I've been using Shutter for approximately 3 months and it's been stable and reliable.

Here's the link to the website for the program:

Once it's installed you'll have to browse around to get familiar with the tools and how to edit a picture or image.

*** Heads up: have the picture <or> image that you want to work with already opened on your desktop before you launch Shutter.***

To start a new project select: File > New> Active Window. There are more options other then Active Window so you'll have to choose accordingly depending on your project.

You can also import from your clipboard if you'd like.

In this first screenshot of the two jackhammers I've used the "Freehand tool". The blue line in the foreground shows where the 2 men are breaking up the floor.

The gray line where the wall meets the floor in the background was done with the "Censor tool".

And using the "Pixelize tool" I was able to blur out the right toe of the man's boot on the right side of the picture.

In this second screenshot of the air compressor I used the "Arrow tool" to point to the gauge on the left and also on the right of the compressor pointing to the hose. The "Text tool" was pretty straight forward to use to label the gauge and the hose. You have a choice of fonts, font colors and what size to set the font to.

The gray line across the bottom portion of the hose and next to the number 3 was done with the "Censor tool". To make the numbers I selected the "numbers tool". The numbers tool can be calibrated to any size by moving the mouse.

In this third screenshot of the AI Robot I selected the "Rectangle tool" to zone in on the ear.

The "Text tool" was used to make the line of blue text on the left hand side of the AI Robots head.

Using the "line tool" I was able to draw a blue line pointing to the neck and under the chin.

The "Rectangle tool" was simple to use to draw a box where the front of the forehead meets the top of the Robots head. And the "Highlighter tool" speaks for its self where you simple just drag it around with your mouse to the object you wish as I did around the eye brow and the right cheek.

Shutter keeps all of the edited screenshots that you make provided that you save them.

The name of the original image is changed. For example: Air Compressor.jpg is changed to Air Compressor.jpg_001.png.

Once you have saved a edited screenshot you can easily re-open it to make adjustments if you need to by selecting the image and click Edit.

When selecting an image the program will highlight it. On this Linux Mint 21.1 installation the highlighting is in blue. Yours may be different.

Once selected and highlighted simply click: Edit.

Great program for a lot of uses but don't take my word for it install it and try it.

And, have a great weekend!
