Sophos Anti Virus For Linux And ClamAV

Looking at the website for Sophos and the Guides that you can download to help you are good.

It looks to me that it will require some work and some reading too.

From this page, at the top of the page in the drop down menu select Sophos Anti Virus for Linux

Then in the second drop down menu select Sophos Central Managed computers.

That's for:

****For 64-bit Linux computers you use Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux version 10.****

So if you don't want Sophos for 64-bit Linux pc's then select Stand Alone instead.

Here, you can download the Guide:

Then download this Guide Sophos Anti Virus For Linux Start Up Guide Ver 10

The start up guide for Linux Ver 9 is on this same page.

In order to download Sophos you have to give your name, email and etc.

And comply with end user agreement.

Due to requirements of the U.S. government, export compliance is now mandatory when downloading our software. Complete the form and agree to the End User Terms of Use to proceed with your download.

Upon going to the Download page it was overwhelming IMO to understand which Download to choose.

I could be wrong, I think you'll have to join the Sophos Community to get more clarification on which .iso to download.

Things have changed greatly since I was running Sophos on my 64-bit desktop pc a handful of years ago. It ran well however things are much more advanced now.

ClamAV ~

The documentation is good for ClamAV and helpful.

If your running a Red Hat based distro you will need a .rpm package. If your running a Debian or Ubuntu based distro you'll need a .deb package.

Reading the Package Documentation is essential. This way you will know where the installer will place the packages.

The recommended RAM is 3GB however 4 GB is preferred:-

Be sure you have enough RAM or things most likely will not go well.

From the website:

If your container does not have enough RAM you can expect that the OS (or Docker) may kill your clamd process. Within Docker, this may cause your container to become unresponsive. If you're observing issues with ClamAV failing or becoming unresponsive once a day, it is likely that your system does not have enough RAM to run ClamAV.

If you need help you can become a part of the ClamAV mailing list, use the Discord server or submit an issue on GitHub.

***If I had to choose I would go with ClamAV.***

Ben Martens did a 'fantastic job' writing this tutorial and it's really helpful!
